Budget your money, time, and space!

Save Money!

BULK

Buy what you can in bulk, but only if the unit price is lower than buying smaller. It is very important to watch the unit price and what is considered a unit. I love to buy paper products in bulk, (toilet paper, paper towels, plates and cups), but many times the units are different on different brands. I have found that with toilet paper and paper towels that some brands give the unit price by the sheet with 100 sheets being the unit. Other brands give the unit price by the foot. I always convert the unit price to feet for those giving by the sheet. I have also found that with these products it is sometimes worth it to pay a little extra, because I go through the lower quality twice as fast because they aren't as thick or as absorbent. I will give any brand a try if it is the cheapest, but if I find the quality doesn't match up I won't buy it again.

Save Time!

Sort by person

I have found that it is a real timesaver if I sort my clothes by person before folding. I have a different basket for each person and after pulling the clothes out of the dryer, I throw each person's things into their basket. I have found that if I don't get them all folded then the children aren't trying to dig through a basket of somebody elses clothes looking for their own. This has cut back on having clean clothes scattered all over the floor around the basket. Plus, it makes it easier for the kids to put away their own clothes if they are already in a basket that is exclusively theirs.

Save Space!

Baskets

I like to save space and time simultaneously by putting things in baskets before they go on shelves. In the kitchen under my sink I have a basket that has a sponge, rubber gloves, squirt bottle of cleaning solution, air freshener, steel wool pad, and floor cleaner. This basket saves space because it keeps all of these from getting scattered all over the place. It saves time because I can just grab the whole basket and carry it from room to room as I need it to clean. The top of my refrigerator has a basket that contains first aid supplies and medicines, another that contains batteries and tools, and another that contains pens, markers, tape, stapler and other stationary products. Before incorperating the baskets into my life my shelves always had things rolling all over the place.
